Scripture Teaches
The Existence of God
Atheism/AgnosticismAtheism holds that there is no God — the universe exists without a creator, consciousness arose from matter, and the cosmos requires no supernatural explanation. Agnosticism holds that God’s existence cannot be known with certainty. Both positions reject the God of the Bible as a reasonable object of faith.
GraceScripture does not argue for God’s existence as a hypothesis — it declares it as fact. In the beginning God (Genesis 1:1). The evidence of creation itself leaves all men without excuse: For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:20). Atheism is a moral choice, not an intellectual one (Psalm 14:1).
Morality Without God
Atheism/AgnosticismWithout God there is no objective moral standard. Morality is either evolutionary (behaviours that promoted survival were called good), socially constructed (societies agree on norms), or individually chosen. Most atheists live as though morality is real, but their worldview provides no foundation for it. Good and evil become matters of preference.
GraceGod is the absolute standard of all morality. His law is written on every human conscience (Romans 2:15) — which is why atheists cannot avoid moral judgments even while denying their foundation. The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether (Psalm 19:9). Without God, right and wrong are abolished. With God, every action will be judged perfectly and finally.
The Bible & Scripture
Atheism/AgnosticismThe Bible is a collection of ancient human writings — valuable historically and literarily, but not the inspired Word of God. It contains contradictions, mythological elements, and the cultural biases of its human authors. Higher criticism has revealed the documents’ human origins. No rational person is obliged to accept its claims.
GraceThe Scripture is God-breathed, infallible, and entirely true. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). Its unity across forty authors and fifteen centuries, its fulfilled prophecy, and its transformation of millions of lives is evidence of its divine origin. The supposed contradictions dissolve under careful examination.
Death & the Afterlife
Atheism/AgnosticismDeath is the permanent end of the individual. When the brain ceases to function, consciousness ceases. There is no soul, no afterlife, no heaven, and no hell. The atoms of which a person is composed return to the universe. Whatever meaning a life had, it ends at death.
GraceDeath is not the end. It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). Every person will stand before God and give account of every word, every deed, and every secret thought (Matthew 12:36; Romans 14:12; Ecclesiastes 12:14). The certainty of judgment is not a threat to be brushed aside but the most important fact every living person must face.
Sin, Guilt & the Suppressed Truth
Atheism/AgnosticismAtheism denies sin as a meaningful category and denies guilt before God. Yet experience shows that the human conscience persists even when its foundation is denied. Atheists feel genuine guilt, genuine moral outrage, and a genuine sense that some things are wrong — all of which their worldview cannot explain.
GraceScripture explains the phenomenon. God has revealed himself to every man in creation and in conscience, and every man knows it. Atheism is not a conclusion reached by following the evidence — it is the suppressing of the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18). The atheist lives by borrowed capital from the Christian worldview he denies. Ultimately, every knee shall bow… and every tongue shall confess to God (Romans 14:11).
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.”
Psalm 14:1
